This obscure style of cloth is distinguished by the inclusion of narrow warp stripes in raffia and by a float pattern in narrow indigo warp stripes. I have seen about ten examples, most of which have had red warp stripes. All of them were collected in the south east of the Yoruba area, suggesting an as yet unidentified source in that region, although the possibility that they come from further East near the Niger or Benue cannot be ruled out. This example is one of the finest I have seen and is in excellent condition with a pleasing soft texture and hand sewn seams throughout. Dates from circa 1900-20s.

We have numerous other indigo dyed cloths in stock. See our indigo gallery for examples or email.
