Very rare style of lightweight women's shawl cloth collected in the southeast of the Yoruba region with both wrap and weft stripes of trans-Saharan alaari magenta silk, pink dyed local cotton and white, with rows of openwork. The central seam and hems have been resewn by machine but otherwise this beautiful cloth is in very good condition. It dates from circa 1900-20.
