CODE#: NW410 PRICE: Email for price Measures: 70ins x 47, 178cm x 119 Exceptionally rare example of Nigerian women's weaving decorated using a supplementary floating warp, as opposed to the more typical supplementary weft. The white supplementary warp floats back and forth over the two faces of the cloth three stripes in a regular over/under pattern which is interrupted at regular intervals to create geometric and anthropomorphic motifs. Although this piece and the two related examples I am aware of were collected in the Yoruba speaking southwest of Nigeria it is possible that they are the product of an as yet unidentified weaving style in the so-called Middle Belt of the country. This cloth is in very good condition with a few minor faint marks. It dates from circa 1920-50.
