This is an example of a classic Malian cotton blanket called muunyuure or among the Dogon, uldebe. These blankets were worn as a mark of high rank by senior men and later played a role as a substitute for the corpse in funerary rites. Hand spun thread is used throughout.  It was collected in Northern Ghana where Malian blankets are highly prized heirlooms, and dates from the middle part of the C20th. In excellent condition.
