Chequerboard pattern Malian cotton blanket with some unusual variations in weft float patterning. Similar blankets were used until recently by Bamana, Dogon and Fulani where they were worn as a mark of high rank by senior men. Hand spun thread is used throughout.  It was collected in Northern Ghana where Malian blankets are highly prized heirlooms, and dates from the early to mid part of the C20th. In excellent condition.
