Manjak weavers are from Guinea Bissau but many now work and live in Senegal where there is a wealthier patronage for their weaving. Their complex weft float patterning is a contemporary derivation of the ornate pano de obra woven in the Cape Verde islands under Portuguese rule. This is another superb new example woven in St.Louis, Senegal, with a design strongly influenced by older patterns from Cape Verde.
