PRICE US$2350

MEASURES: 114 inches x 61 ins, 289cm x 155cm

This very unusual cloth was collected in north east Côte D'Ivoire but is at least provisionally attributable to the Ewe on stylistic grounds. The ground weave of this old and heavily worn cloth is of hand-spun indigo dyed cotton, which is extremely rare on Ewe cloths. The borders are also unusual with a switch away from the more regular layout of the main field to a cramped seemingly random placement of weft blocks and motifs.

Dating from early C20th or perhaps late C19th, this cloth is quite faded and has a few repairs made using a strip from the edge of the cloth.
