Bogolan Gallery

All these cloths are genuine Bamana bogolan cloths (or bogolanfini) hand decorated in Mali and made from soft, hand woven, hand-spun cotton.  Bogolan is machine washable and makes a good furnishing fabric. These cloths are from the rural home of bogolan in the Beledougou region and are painstakingly decorated by women in a style handed down from mother to daughter over many generations. These beautiful textiles are now becoming increasingly hard to source as production shifts to the less laborious new styles.

Each is in excellent condition. Full details of size of each cloth, together with price and ordering information, can be found with a larger picture by clicking on the thumbnail images. Please be patient as the images may take a minute to download. As with all our cloths we guarantee a full refund if you are not satisfied with any order.

Designer Bogolan: the pieces shown below are from the studio of Mr Boubacar Doumbia, a renowned textile artist and scholar who was a founder member of the Groupe Bogolan Kasobane. They reflect his deep knowledge of both bogolan mud cloth tradition and the ideograms of the Bamana and Dogon. The brown pieces are dyed with natural plant dyes, a subject on which Mr Doumbia has done considerable research.
