Remarkable example of an innovatory style of supplementary weft float weaving that enjoyed a brief fashion at some point around 1950. The weaver used weft float to cover the entire front face of the strip in the a pattern area, varying the colour to create figurative motifs against a plain ground. I know of 3 or 4 other examples using the same technique, but this is the only piece I have seen to date with a butterfly motif. Seams are sewn by hand. In excellent condition, dates from circa 1950.
