This woman's  wrapper cloth is a rare example of the very complex style of supplementary weft float weaving practised by weavers of the Jukun people in the vicinity of Wukari in Taraba state, eastern central Nigeria. There are now only a handful of weavers in this tradition still active and today they work only with machine spun thread. This piece which was collected a couple of years ago and dates from around the 1950s -6os has a handspun cotton background and handspun indigo dyed thread is used for most of the float patterns. A narrow strip of Hausa cloth along the top edge was used to secure the cloth around the waist. In excellent condition.
