This design evokes the multiple strands of beads that Yoruba women wore around their waist, and the sounds these beads made in the course of dancing. Typically this motif appears with several other related designs on the classic pattern known as "sun bebe" - it is quite unusual to see it as a single repeated motif here. This cloth dates from around the 1960s and is in excellent condition.
