Superb version of the classic hand-painted adire eleko design known as "Sun bebe." Along with "Jubilee" this is the hardest to locate of the classic patterns and one of the most interesting. The design is supposed to illustrate the sound made by a woman's waist beads as she dances, and therefore has erotic connotations. The concept of a visual representation of a sound is perhaps unique in the field of African art. In excellent condition. Dates to around the  1950s -1960s.
