Adinkra Gallery Page Six

CODE: ADK061

PRICE: US$875

Measures 145 ins by 98 ins, 370 cm x 250 cm

Fine early example of a comparatively rare style of adinkra done on locally woven strip cloth rather than the imported fabric usually used in the C20th. The motifs are stamped on 7 inch (18cm) width white strips between evenly spaced weft faced bands in a rich red colour. The white strips alternate with 1 1/2 inch (4cm) width red strips, resulting in a squared background setting off the adinkra stamped motifs. This was an expensive and therefore prestigious style of adinkra worn by chiefs and other wealthy men. This example is in good condition and dates from early in the C20th.
